About the Furniture Bank
The Furniture Bank was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture for families moving out of homeless shelters. Today the Furniture Bank provides essential household furniture to individuals and families moving out of homelessness, battling HIV/AIDS, and fleeing domestic violence.Furniture Bank Making a Difference : A Client Story
|
Blair Ragsdale, 60 years-old, bunked with friends and family, lived in a shelter, and entered substance
abuse recovery before finally making it to the Furniture Bank.
"Coming to the Furniture Bank has been really good for me," Blair said through teary eyes. "I finally feel
like I can make my own decisions again."
Five years ago Blair lost his job and since then has been in and out of shelters and friend’s homes. For over a year he's been drug and alcohol free and is working to start his own limousine service. Thanks to individuals that donate good used furniture Blair received everything he needed to furnish his apartment - a matching sofa and love seat, a bed, a table and chairs, a kitchen set, nightstand and coffee table, among other items.
