The following client stories show the importance of the Furniture Bank's work...
Domestic Violence recently landed Nancy and her three children, ranging in age from six to sixteen,
in a homeless shelter. During their stay at the Gateway Shelter Nancy learned about the Furniture
Bank and received a referral for furniture. Nancy worked hard while she was at the shelter and
found safe and secure housing for her family. At her Furniture Bank visit Nancy's family received
19 items including 4 beds, a dresser, 3 night stands, bookshelf, sofa, easy chair, coffee table,
dinette set with 4 chairs, lamp, microwave, and several boxes of household items. Nancy stated
that the biggest help was receiving beds for the children so she didn't have to spend her limited
resources on them. Nancy reports that she and her family are doing well and enjoying their
furniture. "The Furniture Bank staff was very kind to me … I felt good about the experience.
I am so happy to have good furniture in my home!"
