Occasional Needs
Capital Campaign
In 2010 the Furniture Bank took an exciting step by purchasing a warehouse in South Atlanta. A grant provided for the purchase of the building but additional funds are needed to repair a leaking roof among other things before the Furniture Bank can officially move. In the new warehouse the Furniture Bank will be able to serve 26% more families each year. Volunteers with fundraising expertise can assist with the campaign.
Furniture, Kitchen Kit or Linen DriveMany Furniture Bank clients are transitioning from homeless shelters are unable to afford essential household items such as plates, glasses, and pots, pans, and linens. Hosting a Kitchen Kit or Linen Drive contributes to the self-sufficiency of families by reducing their food costs, freeing additional income for housing, transportation, and medical needs.
Furniture Building
In 2010 the Furniture Bank started a dining table building project. The project is great for groups. Specialized instructions provide a fool-proof opportunity for builders at any level.
Event Planning and Participation
Our annual fundraiser, Chairish the Future brings together Atlanta artists and design firms to create artwork that is auctioned to raise funds for the Furniture Bank’s services and programs.
Raising Awareness
Despite serving the Atlanta community for over 20 years many people are unaware of the Furniture Bank’s services and needs. We need your help to spread the word! There are several ways to help with this.
1. Friend us at www.facebook.com/furniturebankatlanta . Share us with your facebook network.
2. Host a Furniture Bank representative at your neighborhood meeting, church gathering or office lunch and learn.
3. Tell others about our free furniture pick up service for donors in Cobb, Gwinnett, Fulton or DeKalb counties.
4. Become an advocate for the Furniture Bank. Go to volunteer events, community gatherings or other events to share about the Furniture Bank’s services.
Community Service
The Furniture Bank also works with individuals needing to complete community service. Please note that the majority of our community service opportunities are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Also, most opportunities involve moving essential household furniture like sofas, mattresses, dressers and other household furniture.
